Terry Belanger established a highly-regarded program for the training of rare book librarians and antiquarian booksellers at Columbia University in the early 1970s. He founded Rare Book School at Columbia in 1983, moving it a decade later to the University of Virginia, from which he retired as University Professor and Honorary Curator of Special Collections in 2009. He is a 2005 MacArthur Fellow.
Terry Belanger received a B.A. (1963) from Haverford College and an M.A. (1964) and Ph.D. (1970) from Columbia University.
