Jackie Stallcup
Jackie E. Stallcup is a Professor of English at California State University, Northridge, where she has taught courses in Children’s Literature; Picture Book History and Theory; Childhood and the Fantastic; Feminism and Fairy Tales; and Satire and Childhood. Her research focuses on issues of power, surveillance, and control in adult/child relationships as manifested in literature written for children. She has published on Gulliver’s Travels, Captain Underpants, Elsie Dinsmore, Roald Dahl, Louisa May Alcott, and L.M. Montgomery. She won the Children’s Literature Association award for “Outstanding Article of Literary Criticism in Children’s Literature” in 2002 for her essay “Power, Fear, and Children’s Picture Books,” and again in 2008 for “The Feast of Misrule’: Captain Underpants, Satire, and the Literary Establishment.”
